CACC Holds Annual Chinese Festival
A CELEBRATION OF CULTURE AND CHINESE LEGENDS
The Chinese American Community Center (“CACC”) will kick off the annual three-day Chinese Festival on Friday, June 17 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Saturday, June 18 from 11:00am to 9:00pm and Sunday, June 19, 2011 from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at its facility at 1313 Little Baltimore Road, Hockessin, Delaware, 19707. Since the inaugural event in 1992, the Chinese Festival has become a truly unique and important event in celebrating the rich diversity of Chinese culture in the Greater Wilmington region. Through exhibits, gourmet food, and cultural performances, the event attracted thousands every year. Members of the press are invited for a preview session at 3:00pm June 6, at CACC. A sample of the programs will be demonstrated.
“The Confucius Life Works Exhibit” enlightens the visitors with the teachings of Confucius, a fifth-century BCE Chinese thinker and philosopher, whose influence upon East Asian intellectual and social history is immeasurable. As a culturally symbolic figure, he has been alternately idealized, deified, dismissed, vilified, and rehabilitated over the millennia by both Asian and non-Asian thinkers and regimes. The Exhibit showcases Confucius’ teachings surrounding promotion of the culture, bonding of relationships, and pursuit of harmony amongst all people. Along with this presentation, there are many exceptional photos illustrating the life of Confucius, courtesy of the Taipei Confucius Temple, Shiueshiu Culture and Education Foundation of Taiwan, and the Shandong Publishing Group of China.
The Chinese Festival will feature various cultural performances and demonstrations including Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, Folk Dance, Acrobatics, Tai Chi, Cooking, Kong Fu, etc. “Every year, we are welcoming new and returning performing groups to continue showcase the great cultural heritage of China,” says Juliana Soo, the Chairperson for the Chinese Festival Planning Committee of CACC, “I’m sure we will present extremely diversified numbers of programs and fun activities for everyone in the family!”
In addition to the theme exhibitions and versatile performances, the food court is always an attraction to the visitors. Authentic Chinese cuisines are offered. Visitors can partake of the home cooked Chinese cuisines, snacks, and refreshments in various stands such as the “Juliana’s Corner”, featuring cuisines personally cooked by Juliana Soo.
CACC is a non-profit organization serving the greater Wilmington and South Eastern Pennsylvanian communities since 1982 with the vision of promoting the exchange and integration of Chinese and American cultures. “The Chinese Festival continues its legend as the trademark event in the greater Wilmington area. The festival adds to the area’s cultural diversities and continues its mission to bring the beauty and grace of Chinese culture to a wider audience”, said Albert Shen, Chairman of CACC.
The admission is free for the CACC Chinese Festival with a $5 parking fee per vehicle. For more information on the festival, please visit http://chinesefestival.org/ or contact the CACC office at 302-239-0432 or cacc_de@hotmail.com. For more information on CACC, please visit caccdelaware.org.
